Lanzarote – Winter Sun, Sand, Sea and Volcanoes!
Lanzarote, one of the Spanish Canary Islands, is very popular during the winter months and people flock from Europe seeking the winter sun.
Holidays in Lanzarote are usually met with warm, sunshine and tend to be very relaxing. Lanzarote offers the ideal holiday if you want to get away from the hassles that everyday life presents.
The island, even though its only small, has so much to offer in terms of beaches, pubs, restaurants, the national park, aqua activities and safaris.
The beaches of Lanzarote are somewhat unique due to the volcanic history of the island. The beaches range from golden white sand on the east of the island, to a black / charcoal sand on the west.
During the summer seasons the sea can be very warm and pleasant. Even during winter it is possible to take a dip in the ocean, although it does tend to be a little cooler during the winter months.
If it’s the islands volcanic history you are interested in you should definitely visit The Timanfaya National Park. The national park is located on the west of the island and is home to a number of volcano’s, including the dormant Fire Mountain. If you take a trip up to the visitors centre you will be able to witness just how warm the temperature is, just meters beneath your feet, with a live geyser demonstration and the volcanic grill at the side of the restaurant. You can also take a coach trip around the volcanos as part of the entrance fee.
Also in The Timanfaya national park you can take a camel safari. This will take you through part of the park on Camel back! A real sight to be seen!
Lanzarote has so much to offer the holiday maker. If you want to get out and see the sites then I recommend that you hire a car or book yourself on organised coach trips when you arrive.
