The outstanding Pushkar Mela is held here every year for 5 days in the month of November. This festival is celebrated in the month of Kartik according to the lunar calendar. It begins from Ekadashi and lasts till the night of full moon. It is considered to be auspicious to take dip in this lake during the festival time. The folk dancers and musicians of Rajasthan gather here during this time and add fun to the festival.
This mela is actually the accumulation of 2 or 3 fairs. It is basically a Cattle Fair, here the people come from various villages of the state and participate in the sale and purchase of livestock. Here various animals like Cows, Horses and camels are made to stand in the rows. They are priced in accordance to their health and breed. The animals are decorated by the villagers so that they can get good price against them. One can see here camels in large number and enjoy the culture and custom of Rajasthan.
