Cruise vacations are one of the most exciting and fun vacations you and your family will ever have. Planning your cruise vacation is the key to making the most of the cruise experience.

Cruise ships are floating hotels that sail through ocean while you enjoy all the hotel’s amenities provided. They have casinos, swimming pools, theaters, restaurants, shopping centers or boutiques, spas, gyms and more.

As great as taking a vacation on cruise ships may seem, you still need to know how to plan a cruise ship vacation properly so you have the perfect cruise experience. You need to know about the different types of packages the cruise lines offer.

When planning a cruise ship vacation you need to know how to choose one that will meet your expectation or tailor to your needs. Here are some guidelines that you can follow to plan your cruise travel and enjoy the perfect cruise experience:

Think of who you want to take with you on your cruise vacation. There are many different packages offered by cruise lines. There are packages for the whole family and there are packages for single travelers.

Will you be taking the cruise vacation with children? Maybe you will take your significant other for a romantic getaway. There are cruise ships that are tailored for children and there are cruise lines that cater to single cruisers and honeymooners. There are even some ships that offer wedding services. What could be better than to get married on the ship and have your honeymoon built in?

Decide how long you want to cruise. If you just want to try it out, opt for a three day cruise. Normally, cruises start at three nights and can go anywhere from seven to fourteen days. But there are also world cruises that can last as long as three months. My advice is if you are going to cruise in Europe you should pick a fourteen day cruise because of the expense and long plane rides to get to your port of embarkation. If you live near a port and you just want to take a long weekend choose of three or four day cruise. Decide what cruise travel is best for you.

Choose the perfect destination for you and your family. Alaska is beautiful but can only be cruised in the summer months. If you live in the colder climes you may want to take a mid winter cruise to the Caribbean or even South America. If you want your cruise travel to be in the Caribbean and you want to spend two weeks on your cruise vacation, choose a line that alternates between the Eastern and Western Caribbean. This cruise vacation takes you to many different islands.

The cruise lines have a variety of destinations to choose from. Visit your cruise travel agent to go over the different itineraries or check out the individual websites of the cruise lines.

Consider the port of departure. Since 9/11 cruises have been emphasizing home port cruising. Now there are many cruises that depart from Bayonne, New Jersey, Galveston, Texas, or Seattle, Washington, not just Miami and Fort Lauderdale.. Depart from the one closest to you and you will save money on expensive airfare.

Speak to a knowledgeable cruise travel agent. Make sure they have personally sailed on many different cruise ships so they can give you an honest opinion on what each cruise line has to offer and which would give you the perfect cruise experience.
A cruise travel agent will also be able to supply you with cruise tips. Scour the cruise reviews for additional cruise tips.

Large cruise lines have a variety of activities and facilities that you can use on the ship. If you like to gamble then choosing a cruise ship with casinos is probably right for you. Or if you are taking your kids with you, a cruise ship that offers activities and facilities for children would be the best choice for your cruise travel. For instance, Disney is, of course, geared toward children but they do not have casinos. So if you are taking the family but you want to gamble steer away from Disney and choose one of the other major cruise lines. Almost all of them have children’s programs. If you don’t want to be on a ship with children sail on one of the fancier lines that don’t cater to children. Here, again, it pays to read as many cruise reviews as you can to pick up additional cruise tips.

Cruise vacations do not necessarily mean that you have to spend all your vacation time onboard. All the cruise ships offer land and shore excursions. The cruise lines offer pre and post cruise land vacations usually for two or three days.

Land excursions are a great way to explore different cultures and destinations when taking a cruise vacation. You can choose from many activities once you reach a port of call. You can go kayaking, scuba diving or go shopping in the markets of the ports of call.

Following these guidelines will give you some ideas on planning your cruise vacation properly. Proper planning will give you a more exciting cruise experience.

Happy Cruising!

The Internet: Helping you Avoid the Loneliness of Travel

Most people would acknowledge that travelling is one of life’s most precious joys. While home is certainly where the heart is, being able to visit new places and see new sights is a crucial part of broadening your life experience and opening your eyes to unknown cultures. Thankfully, the last half of the twentieth century has seen technology advance to the stage where nearly everyone can travel with ease and in comfort.

Whether you’re simply taking a weekend away at a country cottage in New England, or planning to go on a long-haul trip to Thailand, your vacation is sure to excite you with wonders untold and joys anew. However, while taking a vacation can unlock some of the wonders of the world, travelling can also be a lonely experience – and not just if you’re travelling alone.

For instance, while many people long to get away from their everyday routine, you might be one of those people who find routines comforting. And if you have a fear of flying, travelling to your destination might turn out to be a heavily stressful experience rather than a peaceful break. What’s more, large hotel rooms can often seem impersonal and invite feelings of restlessness or homesickness in you.

However, if you’re looking for a way to prevent vacation anxiety, you might find your saviour in an unlikely place – the internet. The advent of many travel sites and social networking sites on the web in recent years has meant that more and more people can share their holiday experiences with each other. But travel blogs and holiday sites can do more than just offer you reviews of hotel resorts or ratings of local restaurants – they can offer you real, valuable advice on how best to overcome your fears and apprehensions when you’re on a holiday.

The solution to this can be simpler than you might think: many travellers rely on taking simple home comforts with them – for example, your favourite pair of slippers or your most comfortable pyjamas – no matter how badly they’re falling apart. It’s also a good idea to take some of your favourite hobbies or pastimes with you on holiday to beat any feelings of loneliness that might creep up on you; if you play an instrument, for instance, take it with you. String and woodwind instruments, like guitars, violins or flutes, are fairly convenient to transport – and unless you’re embarking on a backpacking tour of Europe and need to travel light – there’s no excuse not to take them along with you.

If you’re the sort of person who abhors soulless hotel rooms, then why not take some items from your home with you to help brighten up your room: simple things like family photographs or your bedside alarm clock can help make the atmosphere around you more familiar and welcoming, and can do wonders in curing any feeling of homesickness that might arise.

Since we now live in the internet age, many hotels let you share travel advice and tips online. Homewood Hotels, for example, provides a bulletin board, where past guests can share their experiences of their stay – from restaurants to places to visit or avoid – and pass on advice and tips to potential guests, helping them get the most out of their holiday. So, regardless of whether you’re spending Easter weekend in Houston or Hawaii, you’ll find the internet is your friend when it comes to beating travel anxiety.

Finding a Great hotel in Barcelona

Barcelona is known for its great nightlife and it offers some other great attractions. No matter what the reason for your visit to Barcelona, you need a good hotel in Barcelona. The following information on these top Barcelona hotels come from reviews by former guests who have stayed at a hotel in Barcelona. You will find that every hotel in Barcelona offers great hotel stays in addition to its other attractions. The hotels reviewed are Casa Camper Hotel, The Hotel Arts, Neri Hotel, and Hesperia Sarria.

Casa Camper Hotel received some nice comments from guests. It has 25 rooms that are decorated in creative fashions that match the amazing décor of the entire hotel. Extras, like minibar and room service, are included in the base cost so you do not end up with a huge bill at check out. It is a short walk to P. Catalvyna and close to the city. For those that like quiet nights , the Casa Camper Hotel is removed enough from the nightlife so it provides a quite sleeping environment. The Casa Camper hotel in Barcelona received great reviews and was listed as well worth checking out.

The Hotel Arts hotel in Barcelona has 402 rooms and is located on the beach. While not every hotel in Barcelona is not usually known for its beaches, the location does provide beautiful views. It is not quite near the city, so you must travel to get to attractions. The nearby restaurants provide wonderful cuisine that makes the location desirable. They are said to have some of the best beds a hotel in Barcelona can offer. The cost of The Hotel Arts does discourage some guests and extras are not included in this base price. Overall, it was reviewed as a great hotel, but not really worth the price.

The Neri Hotel in Barcelonahas artistic décor that draws you into their 22 room establishment. With the use of stone and wood, the décor is beautiful. The rooms are cozy and they offer you the choice of five different sheet types. It is advised that you get good directions to the hotel because it is hard to find. There are no scenic views, but the attention to detail in all the aspects of this hotel makes up for that. Overall, this hotel was said to have exceptional service and created an amazing experience for visitors, making it a must.

The Hesperia Sarria has 134 rooms and is located in a quiet area of Barcelona. It is within walking distance to the train station (Les Tres Torres) and many other attractions. There are locked minibars and safes provided in the modern and clean rooms. There is a restaurant on site, although guests say you may never try it because of the closeness of so many other great bars and restaurants. This was noted by gests to be a great buy.

These four hotels all received good and bad reviews. The descriptions above were taken from majority opinions. While all provided nice stays, some stuck out in the crowd. There are many, many alterntives for a hotel in Barcelona and these are only just a small sample of the great service you can receive.

How to Choose Good Hotels in Venice Near the Train Station

Filed under: cruise — Tags: choose, good, hotels, near, station, train, venice — libertees @ 11:04 am January 15, 2010

Taking the train is probably the most convenient way to come to Venice from other cities in Western Europe. Indeed, the Venetian train station, Santa Lucia, is conveniently located within the city of Venice. Coming by train, you will cross the Liberty Bridge with the train and arrive in the city center. This makes the neighborhood of the train station a good location for your stay, as it is a clean and central area of Venice, and once you’ve checked in after arriving by train, you can just forget about your luggage and start visiting right away one of the most beautiful cities in the World. The hotels in Venice near the train station are many and you can easily find a nice one, from budget hotels to 5 star hotels.
At the train station of Santa Lucia, you can easily find all the information you need for your visit of Venice; you can even get a free map of the city, buy vaporetto (a traditional taxi-boat) tickets, and even museum passes: it makes it a good place to start a trip and a convenient place to stay close to.

Before choosing a hotel in Venice, you should define your travel style (alone, as a couple, with your family, with friends, for instance) and your budget in order to know which kind of hotel you are looking for – it can be a cheap place to enjoy Venice at the best rates, a 3 star hotel for a medium budget and comfort expectations, or a luxury 4 or 5 star hotel for the ones who want to spend high class holidays.

First of all when choosing hotels in Venice near the train station, just as elsewhere in Venice, you should keep in mind that former customer’s ratings and opinions about hotels are valuable testimonies about what can be expecting you. Read carefully the hotels reviews by other travelers, because their expectations were maybe similar to yours, and their advice can convince you to book the hotel they have stayed at, or on the other hand warn you against staying at a place where they have met trouble.

It is also very important to compare different booking website, to be sure you are getting the cheapest price for the hotel of your choice: indeed, different suppliers give different prices for the same hotels and on the same dates. It makes it important to compare suppliers to avoid spending extra money on hotel agencies.

Last but not least, think of checking pictures of the hotels you find, to get a better idea of the place you might stay at: pictures enable you to check the comfort, hygiene and style of the place, and they are the best way not to “get the wrong picture” and regret your booking afterwards.

With these few basic guidelines, you are now ready to look for hotels in Venice near the train station and find the one best suit to your tastes. Have a nice stay in Venice!

Places Visit Near Mumdai – Lonavala, Khandala and Vajreshwari, Ganeshpuri

Filed under: cruise — Tags: ganeshpuri, khandala, lonavala, mumdai, near, places, vajreshwari, visit — libertees @ 8:52 pm January 11, 2010

If you are in Mumbai, India and need ideas for a two day weekend, We have already covered Alibaug and Murud-Janjira. Now, in this article, we cover Lonavla & Khandala – the most popular weekend destinations for Mumbai people. Many people in fact own weekend homes there. Lonavla and Khandala are situated next to each other with a one mile drive between them. The best time to visit these places is the rainy season from mid june to mid september and in the winter season from November to February. Lonavla and Khandala are situated in the Sahyadri hills, two-three hours from Mumbai.

In the rainy season, the region is teeming with waterfalls. People come all the way from different places to enjoy bathing in the natural waterfalls. It is a paradise for nature lovers. People who love trekking will have an awesome time exploring the various trails in the forests and hills. One of the most popular places there is the Bhushi dam. After it has rained substantially for a month or so, the reservoir behind this dam overflows and the water comes down on the steps (stairs) at the edge of the dam. Tourists sit there splashing in the water and have fun eating hot roasted corn and the local vada pav among other delicacies.

Another must visit is the Tiger point which is situated at a good height and involves an uphill drive. It is a very foggy route in the monsoon season and you will love it. Visibility is hardly three-four meters at most. It is a surreal and heavenly experience. Make sure that you take a good wind cheater along. If you are a history buff and also like trekking, you can visit some of Shivaji’s forts situated at some distances from Lonavla. An hour away is the Karla caves, which is thousands of years old and still boasts of wonderful architecture.

The local food items to take home from here are chocolate fudge and chikki (made of peanuts and other nuts). Two days are enough for exploring these two places.

We have already covered Alibaug, Murud-Janjira and Lonavla-Khandala. we cover Vajreshwari and Ganeshpuri – relatively unknown but fun to visit for a single day picnic. These two places are at a distance of one mile from each other and are famous for their natural hot water springs. You can drive down there in your car. It will take you an hour from the Mumbai outskirts to reach there. Find directions from google maps. Rainy season will be a great time to visit.

I suggest that you plan this trip in the traditional way. Pack a big picnic hamper with sandwiches and snacks and take it along with you. Take a big cloth which you can spread out on the ground so that you can eat sitting on it. First make a quick visit to Ganeshpuri and visit the temples there. Spend some time sitting in the peaceful surroundings there. From there, go to Vajreshwari. In Vajreshwari, visit the main temple which is a like a small fort and over two hundred years old. From there, ask locals about the hot water springs and check them out. If you go after it has rained considerably, you should visit the river flowing behind the water springs. Find a nice picnic spot here to have your lunch with nature as your partner. There isn’t much to do in Vajreshwari and Ganeshpuri apart from seeing the temples and hot water wells. If you have a group of friends going along with you, you can play some outdoor games for a while.

Before going home, visit a local eatery to try out the Maharashtrian dish – Usal misal pav. Drive back home by 5 pm so that you can avoid the evening traffic. We hope that you have a good picnic. And don’t forget to take a camera with you.

Places to Visit Near Mumbai- Alibaug and Murud Janjira

Filed under: travel — Tags: alibaug, janjira, mumbai, murud, near, places, visit — libertees @ 5:49 pm December 26, 2009

This article is aimed to provide information for people in Mumbai (Bombay) or Pune who want to get away from their cities on a 2/3 days holiday trip without spending too much or going a long way.

Alibaug is a small coastal town located at a 110 km drive from Mumbai. You can reach it easily by road. Or another exciting option would be to go via a ferry/catamaran from the Gateway of India to Mandwa jetty (it’s 20 kms from Alibaug). There’s not too much to do in Alibaug except relax and roam on the different beaches, so two days there would be enough. Visit the Kolaba fort which is situated in the sea at a distance of 1-2 kilometers. You can walk to the fort during the low tide. During high tide, you can cross the distance via boats. It’s a nice place to visit if you have 2-3 hours to while away time and just have some fun. The main Alibaug beach is rocky and not advisable to venture in the sea for bath/swim here. If you are looking for some beach fun, make sure that you visit Kashid beach – it is 20 kms away from Alibaug. But it’s an awesome beach, very clean with white sand. An ideal place to read a book lying in a hammock. Or laze around in the clean sea water here. It’s the best beach between the long stretch from Mumbai to Murud in the Konkan region.

Another famous beach of Alibaug is Kihim beach. Here, you can try para-sailing behind a four wheeler. Kihim beach is famous for its dense cover of Coconut trees. Many rich and famous people own farmhouses in Kihim. You can also visit the Kanakeshwar temple which is half an hour away from Alibaug. All in all, it will be a fun two day weekend and relieve all the stress you hold.

We give you ideas about 2-3 day weekend vacations from Mumbai. If you go further south from Alibaug, you reach Murud. The drive from Alibaug to Murud is extremely beautiful. You have to drive along the coast encountering small beaches on the way. The sea water touches the edge of the road at many places and it’s an awesome scene. Make sure that you stop at Kashid beach, which is mid-way between Alibaug and Murud. Murud is around 150 kms from Mumbai. Kashid is the best beach in the entire driving stretch, so make sure to spend some time there.

Murud is a small, sleepy, coastal town. If you had fun in the sea at Kashid beach, you won’t feel tempted to bathe again on Murud beach. Instead enjoy horse-back riding or get driven around in a horse carriage. The main place to visit near Murud is Janjira fort. This fort is over five hundred years old. And it has the unique history of never being captured by anyone. It is also called as the impregnable or invincible fort. It is situated in the middle of the sea and is accessible only via boat/ferry. The fort is a very imposing structure and you will be in awe of its greatness. Make sure that you get a guide before going aboard – the boat owners will ensure that you get your guide. Janjira has an impressive history as you will learn from the guide. What’s surprising is that till twenty years back, this fort was actually inhabited by the descendants of the Siddis – the last owners of the fort. It has fresh water wells in the middle of sea water – which is unbelievable. The island is also connected to the main coast via three underground secret tunnels which are kept closed for public. These were escape routes. Spend some time exploring Janjira and asking questions to your guide. Click lots of photos here.

Murud Janjira can be accessed easily when you visit Alibaug. Just add a day to your Alibaug itieranary. Reach there by 10 AM or so and leave by 4 PM. You will have fun – guaranteed.
