What cruise line offers the best Alaskan cruise?

Filed under: Blog — Tags: alaskan, best, cruise, line, offers — @ 1:30 pm February 5, 2012

Question by Shari S: What cruise line offers the best Alaskan cruise?
We are going with friends next year around September. There are so many cruise lines to choose from and selections of places to go that each one offers. What, in your opinion is the best cruise line and places to visit. We are senior adults and do not want a “party cruise” just good sight seeing and relaxation. Thanks

Best answer:

Answer by TINKERTOY ….. the 1 & only
I have been to Alaska twice, once on business for 2 weeks with some weekend sightseeing and then on a cruise. In my opinion the best cruise for you (I am a senior also) would be a cruise-tour. The cruise tour allows you to see more of Alaska by land (bus and/or train) either before or after the cruise. You get to select one or two stopovers in places like Denali National Park or Talkeetena.

Cruises of the inside passage are pretty much the same and usually all stop at the same port cities like Sitka, Skegway, Juneau. When the ships go to where you can see the glaciers the sights are also pretty much all the same. After a while all of the scenery looks about the same; all beautiful. But there is no one place that I would suggest (based on my land and sea tours) you gotta see this.

There are 4 cruise lines which offer this and all would be good. Princess Cruise line, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, and Holland America all offer cruise-tours.

We did our cruise tour with Princess and it was very good. We did the cruise part first and then had a day and night in Anchorage, a great train ride from Anchorage to Denali National Park, and after a night at a lodge owned by Princess we took the train the next day to Fairbanks for a night there. My recommendation is to do the tour part first and do fly to the start point a day early so you don’t get caught in a flight delay.

All four of the cruise lines that I have mentioned use the train for the land tour. But Royal Caribbean, Princess, and Celebrity have special domed train cars that provide great visibility. Not all tour segments are the same so you really have to pay attention to how the land tour is organized and whether it uses the train or buses.

You will do well to book your cruise now for next Sept to get the very best price. Sept is a great time to go to get good prices because the last couple cruises of the Alaska season are always the lowest priced. The weather is also likely to be pleasant, although not as warm as mid-simmer. We did out cruise tour in May, before summer months, and the weather was very nice, mid 70′s. The further we went north the warmer it was. It will be rainy in a couple stops like Ketchcan and Juneau; just take a rain poncho.

The Truth About Cruise Line Ratings

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: cruise, line, ratings, truth — libertees @ 1:02 pm December 19, 2011

Many people enjoy cruise vacations, and rightly so. Although you can easily research this subject online, if you need a more detailed plan of action, you can find out about cruise line ratings.

The ratings are in stars and start obviously at 1 and go up to 5 or 6. Of course 5 or 6 is the very best and you can be assured that this is wonderful ship with expensive décor, large cabins and great food. Also the ships will cater to your whims and desires and employ a good sized staff to do so. If you are lucky to get a great ship as discussed above, the only factor that you can’t be sure of is the weather. Of course, this is probably a really expensive cruise.

Ratings can also help you to shop around so you can find the best cruise for you, which of course is a great advantage. The thing is if you go into this cruising adventure with your eyes closed, then you might well be stuck on board for a certain number of days and you cannot change anything. On the other hand, if you do take the trouble to find out about the ratings, you have a great advantage in that you can choose which cruise line is a good fit for you.

So how do cruise ship ratings actually help? First off they give you lots of information on which type of cruise as well as the quality of that cruise. But beware of great marketing and advertising as you will no doubt be given the absolute best scenario. You would also be well advised to seek out a cruise ship travel buro. Here you will find helpful staff who will assist you in all aspects of cruising. Now you have spoken to these experts, you can use this new-gained knowledge to do some more research on the internet. This way you will have done everything possible to ensure that the cruise you choose is the right one for you.

Probably the best ratings come from people who have actually gone on the cruise and the cruise ship that you want to take. Remember that these comments are biased and reflect what that particular person’s experience was onboard. However, if you find several comments about the cleanliness of the cabins, then I would imagine that is something you would have to check into. These comments are easily found on message boards or forums about cruise lines and destinations.

So if you are planning on going on a cruise, which can be a wonderful experience and adventure, do check out the cruise line ratings as well as research well the cruise line you are considering.

Which is the Best Cruise Line

Which is the Best Cruise Line

Article by Ryan Sutton

The answer to the question of which is the best cruise line is as varied as the people asking it. When considering a cruise it doesn’t matter who is the best overall, it matters who can best fill your needs. In order to find the cruise line that best matches your needs; you first need to discover what those needs are. Begin by asking yourself the following:

1. Where am I interested in taking a cruise to? 2. How long of a cruise do I wish to take?3. What port do I want to sail out of? 4. What is my cruise budget?

Once you have the answer to those questions you can begin by researching the different cruise lines that match your criteria. The reason this is so important is because cruise lines don’t have ships in every port and for every type of cruise you wish to take for the length and time you wish to take it. Let’s say for example, that you live in Jacksonville Florida and are looking for a cheap, quick getaway to the Bahamas. Because your budget is tight you really want something that will sail out of Jacksonville so you don’t have to pay the added expense of traveling to another port. You will soon discover that based on these criteria, only Carnival sails out of Jacksonville. Therefore it no longer matters who holds the title of overall best cruise line, as Carnival will be your only option.

There is also the matter of personal opinion. I may think Disney is the superior line while many others may feel another well known cruise line is superior. I’ve chosen a line in the past based on others raving about it only to have my cruising experience with that company be less than impressive.

So how do you choose which is the best cruise line for you? Begin by answering the four questions above. Once you have your choices narrowed down to the specific lines that meet your criteria, you can then visit the individual cruise lines website and compare ships.

Check out the age of the ship, how many passengers it carries, and most importantly what it offers in terms of on board entertainment and dining. You should also look at the itinerary and see how long each ship is in each port, because although each ship may visit the ports you desire, their time in those ports may differ and you may have a personal preference of wanting to spend more time in port A than in port B.

One final thing to consider when choosing the best cruise line for your needs is your travel party. If you and your spouse want a peaceful, romantic getaway, choosing a line that caters to kids and spring breakers may not be your best option. On the flip side, if you’re traveling with your family and want plenty of activities for the kiddies, a cruise line that caters more so to adults will not be your best option.

Always remember that your cruise and vacation are what you make it. As long as you make sure your needs are met, you will have an amazing time regardless of overall opinion of a specific cruise line!
