Vacation cruises have become one of the most popular of the “destination” vacations available. While some people are content to step on board a cruise ship and never leave it for the entire length of their vacation, others enjoy cruising to exotic locations where the cruise is only part of the appeal. The best cruises this year include discount cruises to a number of locations that you might not expect to see on a list of cruise destinations.

Cruise the Mediterranean

Mediterranean cruises have always been popular, but this year’s best discount cruises in the Mediterranean include even more surprises. Imagine a ten night cruise that visits seven cities and includes two beautiful days at sea for just over one thousand dollars per person. Eastern European cruises are priced to buy this year with visits to cities such Mykonos, Kusadesi and Rhodes on the itinerary. The Eastern Mediterranean has always been popular featuring ports of call from Italy to Turkey, and stops at ancient ruins and beautiful beaches. An Eastern Mediterranean cruise offers a wide variety of cruise experiences at discount prices.

European River Cruises

Not all cruises to exotic destinations are on the open sea. Europe is famous for its inland waterways, and river tours are among the most popular European cruises. A Rhine River cruise has long been a European rite of passage, but not all that well-known on the other side of the Atlantic. Cruises along the Rhine offer vacationers a one-stop tour of many European countries, with beautiful views, leisurely days and stops at cities such as Strasbourg, Copenhagen and Cologne.

Northern European Cruises

Cruising through the northern waters may not seem like the vacation of a lifetime, but a Northern European cruise is an extremely memorable trip. Visit Helsinki, Copenhagen, Oslo and other Northern European capitals as you take in the remarkable culture and history. One of the most beautiful sights on a Northern European tour is the northern lights and the stunning scenery. If you book your trip early online, you can get multiple discounts and special perks on Norwegian cruises, including free airfare from several regional cities and upgrades on your cabin or overall package.

Australia and the South Pacific

For a decidedly different cruise experience, nothing can beat a tour of the Australian and New Zealand coast lines. The prices for Australian cruises are purely amazing, starting as low as nine hundred dollars per person for a ten night Australian cruise on a Royal Caribbean line, with stops at Sydney, Hamilton Island, Cooktown and Brisbane, Australia. Prices do not include airfare to the departure destination, but when you book online you can often make all-inclusive deals that will cut your prices even further.

Alaskan Cruises

Take a cruise through the chilly northern waters and enjoy some of the most amazing scenery in you will ever see. Alaskan cruises on various cruise lines offer some of the best deals available this year. You can find Alaskan cruises as low as four hundred and fifty dollars per person, double occupancy, for a seven nights that include stops at Seward, Juneau, Ketchikan and other beautiful Alaskan cities.

Shopping for the best cruise deals online is the secret to finding an amazing cruise for a discounted price. There are a many websites that allow you to search across all the cruise lines and many of the larger discount travel sites to pull together the best package deals for cruise vacations. The tips below will help you find the best prices for discount tours to exotic cruise destinations all over the world.

Plan Ahead When Booking a Cruise Online

You can book your cruise several months in advance, and booking early can often get you great discounts. Most cruise lines will directly offer you an early booking discount. Even better, when you book early, you are most likely to get the cabin or suite that you want, on the cruise ship that you want, traveling at the time that you want to go.

Be Flexible

If you are willing to live with a little risk, you can hold out to the last minute to score big discounts on last minute bookings. This is the riskiest method for getting discounts on your cruise, but offers the best possible prices. The down side is that you may not be able to book on the cruise you want if it sells out, or you may have to settle for a less desirable cabin.

Book a Cruise During the Low Season

As with any other industry, prices are apt to be better if you book your vacation during the slow season, which varies for each area of the world. Prices for a Caribbean cruise, for example, will be lower during the hurricane season, while Alaskan cruises will have lower prices during the late fall.

Cruise vacations are one of the most exciting and fun vacations you and your family will ever have. Planning your cruise vacation is the key to making the most of the cruise experience.

Cruise ships are floating hotels that sail through ocean while you enjoy all the hotel’s amenities provided. They have casinos, swimming pools, theaters, restaurants, shopping centers or boutiques, spas, gyms and more.

As great as taking a vacation on cruise ships may seem, you still need to know how to plan a cruise ship vacation properly so you have the perfect cruise experience. You need to know about the different types of packages the cruise lines offer.

When planning a cruise ship vacation you need to know how to choose one that will meet your expectation or tailor to your needs. Here are some guidelines that you can follow to plan your cruise travel and enjoy the perfect cruise experience:

Think of who you want to take with you on your cruise vacation. There are many different packages offered by cruise lines. There are packages for the whole family and there are packages for single travelers.

Will you be taking the cruise vacation with children? Maybe you will take your significant other for a romantic getaway. There are cruise ships that are tailored for children and there are cruise lines that cater to single cruisers and honeymooners. There are even some ships that offer wedding services. What could be better than to get married on the ship and have your honeymoon built in?

Decide how long you want to cruise. If you just want to try it out, opt for a three day cruise. Normally, cruises start at three nights and can go anywhere from seven to fourteen days. But there are also world cruises that can last as long as three months. My advice is if you are going to cruise in Europe you should pick a fourteen day cruise because of the expense and long plane rides to get to your port of embarkation. If you live near a port and you just want to take a long weekend choose of three or four day cruise. Decide what cruise travel is best for you.

Choose the perfect destination for you and your family. Alaska is beautiful but can only be cruised in the summer months. If you live in the colder climes you may want to take a mid winter cruise to the Caribbean or even South America. If you want your cruise travel to be in the Caribbean and you want to spend two weeks on your cruise vacation, choose a line that alternates between the Eastern and Western Caribbean. This cruise vacation takes you to many different islands.

The cruise lines have a variety of destinations to choose from. Visit your cruise travel agent to go over the different itineraries or check out the individual websites of the cruise lines.

Consider the port of departure. Since 9/11 cruises have been emphasizing home port cruising. Now there are many cruises that depart from Bayonne, New Jersey, Galveston, Texas, or Seattle, Washington, not just Miami and Fort Lauderdale.. Depart from the one closest to you and you will save money on expensive airfare.

Speak to a knowledgeable cruise travel agent. Make sure they have personally sailed on many different cruise ships so they can give you an honest opinion on what each cruise line has to offer and which would give you the perfect cruise experience.
A cruise travel agent will also be able to supply you with cruise tips. Scour the cruise reviews for additional cruise tips.

Large cruise lines have a variety of activities and facilities that you can use on the ship. If you like to gamble then choosing a cruise ship with casinos is probably right for you. Or if you are taking your kids with you, a cruise ship that offers activities and facilities for children would be the best choice for your cruise travel. For instance, Disney is, of course, geared toward children but they do not have casinos. So if you are taking the family but you want to gamble steer away from Disney and choose one of the other major cruise lines. Almost all of them have children’s programs. If you don’t want to be on a ship with children sail on one of the fancier lines that don’t cater to children. Here, again, it pays to read as many cruise reviews as you can to pick up additional cruise tips.

Cruise vacations do not necessarily mean that you have to spend all your vacation time onboard. All the cruise ships offer land and shore excursions. The cruise lines offer pre and post cruise land vacations usually for two or three days.

Land excursions are a great way to explore different cultures and destinations when taking a cruise vacation. You can choose from many activities once you reach a port of call. You can go kayaking, scuba diving or go shopping in the markets of the ports of call.

Following these guidelines will give you some ideas on planning your cruise vacation properly. Proper planning will give you a more exciting cruise experience.

Happy Cruising!

Caribbean Island Cruises – Vacations For Everybody

Filed under: cruise — Tags: caribbean, cruises, Everybody, island, vacations — libertees @ 4:59 pm May 31, 2010

Often considered the vacation of choice for a certain age group, the demand for Caribbean cruises is increasing; this has got to be the easiest way to see a variety of Caribbean islands in a short space of time. There is fantastic scenery, beautiful beaches, and exotic Caribbean island locations; on the cruise liner itself you will have entertainment and a full program of activities at anytime of the day or night. Some people only take a short break and visit perhaps only a couple of islands as part of a larger vacation but most people are doing a tour of as many islands as they can with some lasting over two weeks.

Vacations like this are about enjoyment and it what these companies do best irrespective of weather or environment, it is your choice; enjoy the on board entertainment or that at each destination. If anything, you will have a hard time keeping up with everything that you can possibly do on a cruise liner.

It is always a pleasant use of your time to see what vacations on ships are available and see what choice of packages there are so why not start at the local travel operator for some advice. Each Caribbean cruise will visit a certain number of islands on that particular voyage so you must decide if you want to visit certain islands like Jamaica, Bermuda, Bahamas or Antigua for example.

Some cruise vacations to the Caribbean are for people that like to party with plenty of discos and non-stop entertainment and may not be the ideal place for families. Even though your tour operator should be able to provide information on the types of Caribbean cruise packages that are available, there will probably be more advice to be found on the web sites.

Of course you will need to take all the usual changes of clothing you have for a vacation but ships have many more evening functions which require a little more thought. Women may want to take two or three evening dresses and men will need a tuxedo, they will probably get to wear it for a number of evenings.

The great thing about cruise vacations is that if you take your children along you can be sure they will have a fun filled time. There will be probably more for your children to do than at a standard resort, in fact you probably won’t see them much during the day.

Some Caribbean cruises are specifically for adults only, which ideal for couples, honeymooners and people that would like to have a child free vacation. There is no end to what you can actually request on your cruise liner vacation so if you have just got married or are celebrating your fiftieth wedding anniversary, something special can be arranged.

A Caribbean cruise will be your vacation of a lifetime as it has the scenery, locations, beaches and the first class service you can expect on board a cruise liner whether you are alone or with others.

Pacific Northwest Travel Advice – Camano Island, Washington

Copyright (c) 2009 Matt Moore

In these tough economic times, who wants to waste their time lodging in expensive hotel accommodations where you’re confined to a small room with little privacy and independence of your own. That’s why vacation rentals by owner make so much sense. When you travel, you want to experience a place as it was meant to be. You want to live like you belong there. You want to feel like you’re in control of your own surroundings. Why not stay in a house with a yard, a barbecue, access to the beach, a sports court, your own private hot tub? With a vacation rental by owner you can have essentially everything you could ever want, right in one place, at half the cost.

If you’re looking for a vacation rental by owner, you may not have given much consideration towards a Northwest Puget Sound vacation by the sea. The Seattle area is filled with culture, unique experiences, and you’ll find good people there who have a great appreciation for the environment with good reason; why would anyone ever want to spoil beauty this great? The activities and entertainment possibilities are endless. I highly recommend renting a place by the ocean on Camano Island. It’s only 45 minutes north of Seattle, yet it seems like a world away. It truly is island life at its finest; Washington style. With glistening waters, green surroundings, majestic mountains, and incredible wildlife, you’d be crazy not to see it for yourself. If you really want to convene with nature and invigorate your connection with the great outdoors than Camano Island is for you! Camano Island sits in the rain shadow produced by the Olympic mountain range. It enjoys a drier climate with less rain fall and more sunshine. Driving onto the island coming from Seattle is an experience in itself. One minute you’re driving along in overcast weather surrounded by Evergreen tress, then the next minute the skies clear up and there’re Madronas hanging out over gorgeous seaside cliffs. Scenic overviews of the Puget Sound with the mountains in the distance surround you from all angles. Even the air seems to change; a deep breath in and you’re senses are engulfed with the fresh aroma of the seaside ocean wrapping around you from every direction.

The best way to experience Camano Island is to do a vacation rental by owner. The place I stayed provided all the fixings for a truly great vacation. It sits high above an ocean bay looking out over the water with the Cascade Mountain Range in the distance. Eagles frequently fly through the air and perch in the tops of the trees right before your eyes. I never thought I’d ever end up so close to eagles as they glide with outstretched wings. The way that this wonderful seaside cabin sits, you get some of the most spectacular views on the planet. There is no doubt it’ll leave you breathless.

This particular vacation rental by owner had wonderful charm and character. You’ll find that to be the truth with most vacation rentals by owner, but always be selective in your accommodations in order to find the best places – where you stay makes a big difference. It was decorated with everything you’d expect from a northwest coastal home. From the wood burning stove in the corner, to gorgeous paintings, and wooden interiors; it’s a feeling no lodge or hotel could ever replicate. There’s tons of space as the cabin is deceptively large. There were three stories with a main floor, a loft, and a downstairs with yet two more bedrooms and a games room. All of which have incredible views looking out over the ocean with large expansive windows allowing you to sit for hours on end just taking it in.

With a vacation rental by owner, you have the whole place to yourself too. The freedom and joy you experience being able to unwind uninterruptedly really allows you to get back in touch with yourself. After being far too engulfed in the daily grind that too often consumes us, this is the type of vacation that makes you feel complete again after leaving. I’ve traveled half way across the world, have been to multiple countries, and I’ve stayed in numerous accommodations, yet I’ve never felt quite as connected to my surroundings as I did in this place.

As someone who loves to travel and experience things for myself, I think I’ll always look into vacation rentals by owner. Camano Island in Washington State is probably one of the most overlooked vacation destinations I can think of. I highly suggest you discover it for yourself. You will not be disappointed!

Bangkok and Phuket Island as Football 7s Hubs

Filed under: cruise — Tags: bangkok, football, hubs, island, phuket — libertees @ 10:44 pm January 22, 2010

Football fields are present everywhere in Thailand making football the most popular sport in the country. Thai people generally start their training or friendly football games everyday in the late afternoon when it is much cooler. In addition to the famous International Football 7s held in Bangkok and Phuket, a few local tournaments are organized.

The Phuket tournament is the most in demand as the province is the ideal place for a sport vacation merging leisure and sport. Seven aside football can be played in a week-end, with the opportunity between games to enjoy a swim in the sea, and at night, parties in selected entertainment areas to take pleasure in the most lively night life of the kingdom.

Bangkok is also a good place to join in a tournament as there are several grass fields of outstanding quality. During the tournament, each participant will have not only a taste of this busy metropolis, but also enjoy the night in the many entertainment places. The absence of the beach make it the second most preferred football destination in South East Asia.

These two tournaments have no price money to be won but teams earn a trophy for each level and category: Masters Cup, Masters Plate, Masters Bowl, Open Cup, Open Plate and Open Bowl. Every of the 10 players in each team also earn a medallion they can proudly wear.

Teams are mainly composed of foreigners from many different countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Hong-Kong and Thailand in South East Asia, but also from Australia, France or the United Kingdom. South East Asian teams are formed of mostly expatriates with a couple of locals as there are no purely local teams participating to these international events.

Contrary to the local football tournaments held on the dirt football field in Patong, the International Phuket Football 7s is held on top quality grass pitches where players can enjoy playing football safely. The playing venue, is changed every year and in the event an injury occurs, an ambulance is in standby with a doctor and nurses from an International class hospital of the province.

Bangkok has lots of grass fields and also many Thai clubs and expat leagues. In addition to well-maintained grass pitches from private sport facilities, football can be played in the few International schools, which have top quality fields. The International Bangkok Football 7s is usually held either in the Pattana International school, or the Arrow International school depending on the availability of the venue.

Another International football 7s took place in Pattaya a few years ago but it seems that despite the seaside and the nightlife, the city only makes it to the third position. Pattaya is conveniently situated at 2 hours from Bangkok by car and is a location that should get more expression of interest by foreign teams.

As a conclusion, Phuket, Thailand’s famous traveler destination, is the football 7s favorite location in South East Asia with three tournaments taking place every year, before Bangkok, which is the second with one tournament.

Michel Gerard is a Travel author based in Asia. Visit the Phuket Football7s website to learn more about these Thailand International Football 7s tournaments in Phuket, Bangkok and Pattaya. => http://www.thai7s.com

Enjoy an Anna Maria Island Vacation

Filed under: cruise — Tags: anna, enjoy, island, maria, vacation — libertees @ 1:44 am January 14, 2010

Almost everyone knows that Miami is a top destination for many Florida tourists but there are some other outstanding areas to visit in the Sunshine State. Anna Maria Island vacations are extremely popular even though this setting is not as well known as some of the star studded cities such as Orlando, Tampa and Key West.

You might want to set sail for this tiny Florida Island and make it your main destination for an upcoming vacation. Anna Maria Island is located just off the western coast of Florida and it is so convenient that many travelers add this as a day trip when they are heading to a more southern location such as Cocoa Beach or Miami.

The shimmering white sands provide a wonderful contrast to the jewel toned waters that surround Anna Maria Island. Right now this little bit of tropical paradise retains an intimacy and peaceful tranquility that will mesmerize you. Who knows how much longer you can come here and enjoy a quiet respite from the crowds that are usually encountered at most top Florida vacation sites? If you want to leave the cares and worries of your normal day life behind then a trip to Anna Maria Island is the perfect spot to go.

The Gulf of Mexico extends up the western coast of Florida right into the Florida Panhandle; and these warm emerald waters have been enchanting and delighting millions of guests over the years. Now you can enjoy the beauty and serenity of the Gulf as you relax on one of the world’s prettiest island beaches.

Anna Maria Island is a small barrier island that lies between the Gulf and the city of Tampa Bay. There are more than 7 miles of white sandy shoreline to explore and the lack of crowds makes this tiny island seem even larger than it actually is.

Boats and trolleys are available to transport you around the island, and most people do not need to use their personal vehicles. You can enjoy a stay at a bed and breakfast, or one of the other premiere lodging accommodations that are found on Anna Maria Island. No matter where you choose to stay there are always plenty of activities to keep you busy. The beaches are a major attraction, but there are also some great shops and boutiques to explore.

Who could possibly resist the wonderful opportunity for fun in the sun when they stay on this inviting little island? The beachfront rentals on Anna Maria Island make it possible for guests to spend the majority of their time enjoying the sandy shores and sparkling waters. You can rent equipment to go snorkeling, biking or sailing. Perhaps you would rather set out on a guided kayak adventure that takes you through the network of island waterways. There are also jet skis available for those that enjoy the thrill of speeding along the water’s surface. Walking tours of the city sites are another popular choice of many tourists and the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium are not to be missed.

Plan Your Next Family Reunion on the Island of Maui

Filed under: cruise — Tags: family, island, maui, next, plan, reunion — libertees @ 7:30 am January 2, 2010

Maui is one of the most popular Hawaiian islands for travelers and tourists. When you are planning a family reunion and are looking for something a little more exciting and relaxing than a potluck at the local park, family reunions on Maui can prove to be exactly what you’ve been looking for.

There is plenty to see and do while on the island. Of all the islands, Maui, in particular, is home to small town charm and has been rated as the “best island” in the World by Conde Nast Traveler for the 15th time.

Maui is known as a tourist destination. It is home to Haleakala, the world’s largest dormant volcano. Sunrise on the rim of this volcano is a sight to behold for anyone traveling to the island of Maui. When you venture to the 9,400 foot rim of the volcano, you will enjoy being in one of the most beautiful settings that you’ve ever seen. Once the sunrise is over, you can take a hike, horseback tour or even a bicycle ride down into the crater of the volcano, making a great day of the entire experience.

Whale watching is another popular tourist attraction on Maui, and tours leave daily from Lahaina, which is one of the most charming and popular cities on the island. You can also see and learn more about the whales of Hawaii by exploring Whaler’s Village, where you can enjoy shopping, restaurants, and a good time.

Maui also has the Maui Ocean Center, which is also known as the Hawaiian Aquarium. There is also a snorkeling and diving experience at Molokini, which is a volcano crater that barely peeks out of the ocean and plunges hundreds of feet under the water, creating a paradise of sorts for divers and snorkelers.

Nature lovers will delight in a hiking tour of Maui’s rainforests and secluded waterfalls, going where no car or truck could venture. An experienced guide can teach you about various plants and animals of the region as well as local culture and history, and you can choose between half or full day hikes.

The wine enthusiasts in your family might enjoy the Tedeschi Winery in Maui’s “upcountry,” 2000 feet above sea level. Having a picnic on the beautiful winery grounds is a popular activity, and of course, they offer many samples of their wine, including a uniquely delicious pineapple wine.

If you choose to go island hopping, you can usually plan 1-2 days to travel to and from each island, which can be done by charter boat or by small aircraft, depending on which you prefer.

There are a variety of lodgings to choose from on Maui, including luxurious beachfront mega-resorts, smaller inns or bed and breakfasts, or private vacation rental homes. Whether you want your family reunions on Maui to have a luxurious feel or a more private experience with condos and rental homes, you can choose from many great accommodations. Affordable Hawaii vacations are possible, so long as you take the time to see what’s out there.
