Spend a Memorable Family Holiday in Sri Lanka

Article by Shani Silva

Sri Lanka is a fantastic destination for a family holiday, even for those with very young children and babies. As the Sri Lankan people are very caring and friendly, you can feel safe to bring your children to the island. All the luxury hotels in Sri Lanka have baby cots; high chairs and many have a babysitting service. If you bring a baby carrier, you can even climb Sigiriya rock fortress and visit the ancient cities.

For families with toddlers a beach holiday in Sri Lanka is probably the best option. Between September and March the south coast is ideal. The currents can be strong but there are safe bathing beaches and pools. Wijaya Beach, close to Galle, is particularly good for young children as there is a large pool sheltered by a reef, so the water is shallow and the waves are not too high.

On Sri Lanka’s south coast there are several luxury villas and hotels with large suites and interconnecting rooms that are suitable for families. A family holiday itinerary in Sri Lanka should include a visit to the Pinnewela Elephant Orphanage where children can see baby elephants being bottle-fed and also the elephants bathing in the river. Many of these are wild elephants that have been rescued after injury and sickness. The Elephant Gathering in Minneriya National Park, which takes place between July and September is a must if you are in Sri Lanka at this time. It is thought to be the largest coming together of the animals in the world and is a real wildlife spectacle.

For older children staying in a tented safari in Yala National Park is a popular way to spend part of a family holiday. A BBC study has found this area of land in Sri Lanka’s deep south to have the highest density of leopards in the world. It is great fun traveling along dirt roads in a jeep, looking out for the elusive cats, sloth bears, pythons and rare birds.

If you are considering taking a family holiday in Sri Lanka with older children, then there are plenty of other adventure activities to try. These include white water rafting in Kitulgala, which was the setting for the film Bridge over the River Kwai. Another wonderful way of discovering true Sri Lanka is walking through the Knuckles Mountain Range where you will come across remote villages, stunning views and waterfalls. For those feeling really energetic, then it is well worth climbing Adam’s Peak, one of the highest mountains on the island and a place that is sacred for four religions.

Families who are interested in history and culture will find that their imaginations come alive in Sri Lanka’s ancient cities. Anuradhapura is home to soaring red brick dagobas, which until a few years ago were covered in plants and trees after lying abandoned for almost one thousand years. Sigiriya Rock Fortress is also fascinating; especially to imagine that King Kasyapa lived here in the 5th century and even bathed in luxurious baths right on top of the rock. The incredible variety of landscapes, climates and activities make Sri Lanka a fantastic destination for a family holiday.

Getting the Most out of Your All Inclusive Caribbean Holiday

Getting the Most out of Your All Inclusive Caribbean Holiday

It is easy to be lured by the charm of all inclusive holidays that promise total relaxation without the worry of additional costs. However, packages can vary widely and it is worth thoroughly checking exactly what is included in the price of your holiday so that you don’t end up out of pocket or gazing wistfully at fellow travellers enjoying facilities that are just a little out of your price range.

The knowledge that you won’t have to shell out any more money during your stay offers invaluable piece of mind. After all, who doesn’t want to leave their wallets and purses securely locked away whilst concentrating on making the most out of their holiday. You could treat yourself to that second helping at the dinner buffet, sample the many flavours of delicious Caribbean rum punch and spend your days snorkelling to your heart’s content.

Dining options can vary considerably in different resorts.

Some will include buffet dining whilst others offer à la carte meals or are restricted to certain restaurants within the resort. The last thing you’ll want to do once you’ve paid for an all inclusive holiday is to fork out to dine at a restaurant that isn’t included in your package. Afternoon tea, beach barbecues and evening canapés can also be included and some resorts offer exchange dining facilities at sister resorts. For wine, beer and spirits connoisseurs it is worth noting that some resorts only include local brand drinks and house wine with a limited selection of international brands.

If you are travelling as a family then you will be fully aware of the importance in finding a resort that offers enough variety, fun and stimulation to keep little ones entertained. Once the kids are happy having the time of their lives making new friends and learning new skills, then the rest of the family can relax and enjoy time doing the things that they enjoy the most. There may be age restrictions for certain clubs and inclusive facilities can range from a playground and kids’ pool to supervised activities, beach outings, discos, ‘kids only’ restaurants and even training from world class sports coaches!

Whilst some resorts offer free use of health and fitness facilities and non-motorised watersports, others include a dazzling array of activities ranging from daily spa treatments, diving and kayaking to fencing, dance classes and even circus training! Other little touches such as complimentary sunloungers, picnic lunches and bicycle hire can all contribute to making your stay even more enjoyable.

If you long to see what lies beyond the gates of your resort then it is worth checking if any excursions such as trips into town, island tours, horseriding or free entrance to local attractions are included. When the sun sets evening entertainment begins in a number of resorts. From cocktail evenings and film nights to steel bands, live shows and late-night discos, the options can be wide-ranging and provide more than enough fun and entertainment during your stay.

So whether you wish to simply soak up the sun on one of the Caribbean’s most stunning beaches or you are seeking endless sports and activities, there will never be a lack of choice for all inclusive Caribbean holidays. Just be sure to check the small print and understand exactly what is included.

Holiday Cruises – Something for Everyone

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: cruises, everyone, holiday — libertees @ 1:05 pm December 18, 2011

Let the cruise ship take the strain! Take your ‘hotel’ with you, but change your surroundings. How can you beat holiday cruises for all the best that a holiday could offer?

Holiday cruises give you a chance to see the world in the most relaxing surroundings, and while you’re travelling your holiday carries on. You can see and visit some of the most exciting places in the world, and return to your cruise ship to eat well, be entertained and relax or take part in activities as you wish. It really is the best of all worlds.

Eating different foods is one of the most interesting parts of a holiday, and when you’re on a cruise ship you’ll be offered a huge amount of choice at a very high standard. Whether it’s home favourites like fish and chips of exotic dishes like Moroccan tagine, there will be something for everyone’s taste on your holiday cruise.

Holiday cruises also give you a tremendous variety of entertainment, and all without leaving your ship. Comedy, live music, West End-style shows – all within easy reach. In addition there are bars, and casinos, so once again – something for everyone.

When cruising during the day, holiday cruises lay on the best of activities – from rock climbing to golf, swimming, of course, or just relax in the sun with the cocktail bar a few steps away.

On holiday cruises no one need ever be in want of something to do. Take part in the activities, watch, read a book or doze to your heart’s content. It’s entirely up you when you’re on a cruise ship.

What Makes a Vacation Cruise the Perfect Holiday

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: cruise, holiday, perfect, vacation — libertees @ 1:04 pm December 15, 2011

Vacation cruises are becoming the holiday of choice among more and more people, as holiday makers learn about the benefits and true relaxation that can be found on cruise liners.

If you have never been on a vacation cruise before, you may wonder what the attractions of such a holiday would be, and there is a common myth that being on board a ship for the majority of your vacation would lead to boredom.

There are many different types of vacation cruises available to you, and possibly the most luxurious (and probably the most extravagant) are the all-inclusive vacations.

However, if you have a smaller budget, do not believe that you would be unable to afford this type of holiday – vacation cruises can suit all manner of budgets.

The other attraction of vacation cruises is that once you have decided on the ship you would like to holiday on, and booked the required length of stay and appropriate dates, all other hassle of planning a holiday is dealt with by the cruise company.

The itinerary will be planned on your behalf; often all you need do is wake up in the morning to find yourself in a new place and step off the ship. Vacation cruises allow you to see numerous places/countries in one single holiday, and yet eliminate the stress associated with travelling from one place to another over land or air.

Parties that go on vacation cruises come in all different forms; families are finding them more and more appealing as they can guarantee their children are safe without having to spend every minute of the day supervising them. Older holidaymakers like the security of being in one place but seeing new things, and even honeymooners are often drawn to such a vacation due to the luxury and extravagance of cruise ships.

Making Holiday Cruises Something to Remember

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: cruises, holiday, making, remember — libertees @ 1:09 pm December 10, 2011

In today’s tough economic world, families and individuals have a tendency to save wherever they can, especially on non-essentials such as holidays. Yet, a holiday is often regarded as necessary to escape the difficulties of everyday life and replenish the soul.

For some, cruises are the ideal solution. Most cruises cater for both individuals and families by offering recreational and care facilities for passengers of all ages. Also, the costs are relatively low when compared with inland holidays.

It is however important for both families and individuals to keep in mind that the deck of a ship is very limited in terms of space. In comparison with a land resort, there is very little space to escape from the proximity of others.

For this reason, what has become known as “cruise etiquette” should be observed as a measure of courtesy when taking a cruise holiday.

Passengers should keep the following in mind when observing courtesy for their fellow travellers:

  • When going out for a drink late at night, revellers should keep in mind that not everyone will appreciate loud talking or singing outside their cabin doors.
  • While making cell phone calls is perfectly acceptable, this should not be done in a way that will impose upon other passengers’ enjoyment of their holiday.
  • Parents should keep their young children well-behaved, or make use of the onboard care facilities that are specifically created for them. Not all passengers enjoy the presence of boisterous children.
  • Keeping in mind that space is limited, passengers should not indulge in “seat staking,” the practice of claiming a number of empty seats or deck chairs by spreading objects over them.

Observing the simple rules of onboard courtesy is an important part of making holiday cruises something to remember with joy.

Relax: Why You Should Cruise on Holiday

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: cruise, holiday, relax, should, why — libertees @ 1:05 pm December 9, 2011

A holiday is the ideal time to escape the strains, stresses and worries of everyday life. You want to literally get away from it all and enjoy somewhere new. A cruise is perfect for a stress-free holiday.

Once you are onboard the cruise ship, your holiday begins! Unlike flying or driving to your destination, the time aboard the cruise ship is part of your holiday. You can relax and unwind with your own cabin accommodation, food and drink available, as well as entertainment. You don’t need to worry about planes to catch or jetlag, long tiring drives, booking hotels or restaurants – you can simply enjoy the cruise.

A cruise is also ideal if you have a number of countries you want to visit as most cruises will take in various places on the one trip. You will have time on the cruise to brush-up on any language skills, should you so wish, as well as plan your time at each port stop. And you know exactly where you will be staying so you can truly have a day’s sight-seeing without too many logistical worries.

Most cruises offer real luxury these days. The food is normally fine dining and your meals are included in the cruise price. Your accommodation will be comfortable and spacious. The entertainment is normally wide ranging, offering dance classes, shows, as well as places to relax such as sunbathing on the deck or swimming in the pool.

With a cruise, you can enjoy your holiday both onboard the cruise ship and on shore at new and exotic port stops.
