kashan travel advice, kashan travel tips, kashan tourist attractions guide, iran kashan tour

The bazaar of Kashan is one of the most beautiful in Iran. It has many other interesting buildings inside it, like mosques, caravanserais, water storages and of course the fantastic mill you see on the picture above. The miller, when he’s not working, is standing in the streets of the bazaar, getting tourists’ attention for his mill (and a few rials).

The Borujerdis Old House is a 19th century merchant house. The building itself is a masterpiece and so are the paintings inside by the famous Iranian painter Kamal ol-Molk. The house is famous for its bad-girs, towers designed to lead the high winds to streetlevel, thus keeping the temperature low: very useful in the hot desert.

We mentioned the rosewater before. The famous rosefields of Qamsar are near to Kashan, so you’ll see rosewater stalls everywhere. This is one of the stalls, just outside of the Fin gardens. Rosewater is used in a lot of Iranian desserts, but the spaghetti-like ice cream is our favorite.

We asked this man if his name was Lulletje, but very predictable he didn’t understand this Dutch joke. It doesn’t translate very good in English and we didn’t even try it in Farsi.

The Shahzadeh shrine is maybe the only Islamic building in Iran with a pointy roof instead of a dome.

The Fin gardens are one of the highlights of Kashan. This garden, with pools and fountains among fruit trees, has a wonderful lazy atmosphere. The fountains get their water from a natural spring. After flowing through the gardens, the water is used as drinkingwater.

Kashan’s architectural sights include:

Agha Bozorg Mosque.
Boroujerdi ha Residence.
Tabatabaie Residence
Ameri-Ha (Amerian) House
Abbasian House
Sharifian House
Al-e-Yaseen House
Sultan Amir shrine and bath
40 Dokhtaran Fortress
Pirouz Nahavandi/Abu-Lu’lu’ah Shrine (the assassin of Islam’s second Caliph)
Fin Garden
Sialk ziggurat
Ghal’eh jalali
Kashan Bazaar
Timcheh Amin-o-dowleh

Jerash Jordan travel advice, jerash travel tips, jerash getting there tourist attractions guide, jordan jerash tour

Filed under: travel — Tags: advice, attractions, guide, Jerash, jordan, tips, tour, tourist, travel — libertees @ 5:13 pm October 15, 2010

 Jerash the Romans (strange guys) had a great time. The Roman excavations are of about the same size as the modern part of the town. It is really amazing to see so MANY columns. You can imagine Jerash is sometimes called the Pompeii of the East.

Probably because of its location (only 40 kms from Amman), Jerash has even more visitors than Petra.

Besides columns, there are also two amfitheatres and a couple of temples (with columns, of course).

The Roman famous for the wall between England and Scotland, Hadrian, has built an arch here, called the Hadrian Arch. To see the Arch, you’ll have to go to Jordan yourself, because we didn’t include this picture.

This fascinating city makes a great day-trip from Amman, particularly in spring, when the wildflowers are in bloom. The drive will take you less than an hour, but will transport you 2000 years back in time.

Within the remaining city walls, archeologists have found the ruins of settlements dating back to the Neolithic Age, indicating human occupation of this location for more than 6500 years. This is not surprising, as the area is ideally suited for human habitation. Jerash has a year-round supply of water, while its altitude of 500 meters gives it a temperate climate and excellent visibility over the surrounding low-lying areas.

The history of Jerash is a blend of the Greco-Roman world of the Mediterranean basin and the ancient traditions of the Arab Orient. Indeed, the name of the city itself reflects this interaction. The earliest Arabic/Semitic inhabitants named their village Garshu. The Romans later Hellenised the former Arabic name into Gerasa, and at the end of the 19th century, the Arab and Circassian inhabitants of the small rural settlement transformed the Roman Gerasa into the Arabic Jerash

wadi rum travel advice, why rent guide to wadi rum, wadi rum wild life, things to see and do in wadi rum

Filed under: travel — Tags: advice, guide, life, rent, things, travel, wadi, wild — libertees @ 5:01 pm October 3, 2010

Wadi Rum is a protected area covering 720 square kilometers of dramatic desert wilderness in the south of Jordan. Huge mountains of sandstone and granite emerge, sheer-sided, from wide sandy valleys to reach heights of 1700 meters and more. Narrow canyons and fissures cut deep into the mountains and many conceal ancient rock drawings etched by the peoples of the desert over millennia. Bedouin tribes still live among the mountains of Rum and their large goat-hair tents are a special feature of the landscape.

To see Wadi Rum, you definitely need a 4×4. If you don’t want to get lost, you also need a guide.

According to the Jordanians, the desert at Wadi Rum is the most beautiful in the world. Believe it or not, this place looks GREAT.

Our bedouin guide called this sanddune ‘moving sand’. The meaning of this we discovered when we tried to climb it: one step up, two steps down.

There are many ways to enjoy the attractions of Rum, including jeep, camel and hiking tours and you can stay overnight in a Bedouin tent and gaze at the amazing panoply of stars.

To safeguard its unique desert landscape, Wadi Rum was declared a protected area in1998 and an intensive conservation programme is now underway.

You can explore Wadi Rum in several ways: by jeep, by camel, by horse or on foot. If you want more challenging pursuits like climbing and trekking, see Adventure Seekers.

our iran tour provide us jeep tours to jordan are the quickest way to see the well-known scenic and archaeological sites. There are 19 of these sites of interest and it is possible to visit any combination in a single tour. Tours start from the visitor centre, where you can choose one of 9 tour packages, lasting from 2 hours to full day. Longer trips can be arranged. Most vehicles are pick-up trucks operated by local Bedouin cooperatives. They are characterful and fun but only have modest levels of comfort. Private 4 x 4 vehicles and tour company fleet-vehicles can enter Rum, provided they follow all regulations.

ali sadr water cave travel advice, hamedan and alisadr cave iran tourist attractions and travel guide

Filed under: travel — Tags: advice, alisadr, attractions, cave, guide, hamedan, iran, sadr, tourist, travel, Water — libertees @ 4:59 pm September 23, 2010

The Alisadr Caves are located about 75 kilometers north of Hamadan. After one in the USA and one in Indonesia, it is the largest cave in the world. And according to our guide, the one in America doesn’t have water in it, so that one doesn’t count.

Because there is water in the caves, the tour is by boat. These boats are pulled by watercycles. Of all the surprises we had in Iran, the idea of waterpedaling was probably the least expected.

impressive ali sard water cave tours is unforgetable. We expected there would be more, so we started looking for them, but it was the only one we discovered.

In the caves, there are of course a lot of stalactites and stalagmites. Erosion by the water, that sometimes had a higher level, has created some strange effects.

Halfway of the tour we could get out of the boat and do a bit of walking on one of the so-called islands. The cave reaches a height of 40 meters here and looks absolutely fabulous.

Then, we go back into the boats. We take a different route and see many other spectacular rock-formations.

The cave walls can extend up to 40 meters high, and it contains several large, deep lakes. The cave has a river flowing through it and most travel through the cave system is done with a boat. More than 11 kilometers of the cave’s water canals have been discovered so far. Some routes are 10 to 11 kilometers long and all lead to the ‘Island’.

Excavations and archeological studies of the cave have led to the discovery of ancient artworks, jugs and pitchers dating back to 12000 years ago. The animals, hunting scenes and bows and arrows depicted on the walls and passages of the exit section, suggest primitive man used the cave as their abode. The cave was known during the reign of Darius I (521-485 BC) which can be verified by an old inscription at the entrance of the tunnel. However, the knowledge of the existence of the 70 million-year old cave was lost, and only rediscovered in 1963 by Iranian mountaineers (or 1978 when a local shepherd followed the tunnel searching for water or a lost goat).

This cave is located at 48°18′E 35°18′N, in the southern part of Ali Sadr village. The cave digs into a hill called Sari Ghiyeh which also includes two other caves called Sarab and Soubashi, each 7 and 11 kilometers away from Ali Sadr Cave. Apparently the water in Ali Sadr cave is supplied by a spring in Sarab.

In the summer of 2001, a German/British expedition surveyed the cave to be 11 kilometers long[3]. The main chamber of the cave is 100 meters by 50 meters and 40 meters high.

A tour of the cave can be seen by pedal boats to a centrally located large atrium.

A Guide for Planning a Cruise

Filed under: cruise — Tags: cruise, guide, planning — libertees @ 5:02 pm August 29, 2010

If you have a good travel agent who specializes in cruises or if you’re a member of the American or Canadian Automobile Association, you may want to request a cruise planning guide.

If such a guide is not available, follow these basic steps so you don’t run into major problems. This guide for planning a cruise consists of:

· Pre-booking Stage

· Preparing for your Cruise

· Getting the Most Enjoyment from Your Cruise

Pre-booking Stage

As soon as you know which country and cruise you want, book your cruise as early as possible to take advantage of early booking discounts. If you are travelling alone and do not wish to share your cabin, be prepared to pay the single supplement rate. This can range from 10% to 100% of the cruise fee.

If you do want to share your cabin, ask the cruise director if you can be given the “guaranteed share rate.” What the company normally does is find you a suitable cabin mate and will not charge you the single supplement rate.

Flexibility can save you precious dollars. Cruises taken off season are cheaper than peak season cruises. If your travel plans are flexible and you do not mind traveling on those off-season months, you can obtain a cheaper rate.

If you have room preferences, go ahead and request them. If you tend to be seasick, the best cabins to stay are those in the middle of the ship as these are the cabins that do not “move” as much.

If you want to save some money, choose a room without an ocean view.

One important piece of advice: not all cruise companies have the same definition for a suite. If you are requesting a suite, make sure you know exactly what you are getting.

Know what kind of ship you want. Small ships (they usually accommodate about 500 passengers) offer more personalized service and generally have a more “family-type” atmosphere. They also have unique programs on board and can be more flexible when it comes to spending a certain amount of time in itinerary stops.

Medium ships (500 to 1,000 passengers) have a variety of activities on board and may include entertainment or sing-along events.

Large ships (over 1,000 passengers) usually come “fully loaded.” There are more amenities, more high-tech facilities, more activities, and more opportunities for meeting people.

Preparing for Your Cruise

· Check with the cruise company what types of identification you will need before getting on the ship;

· Let the cruise line know if you have any allergies or special food needs – send this in writing at least two months before departure date;

· If you suffer from motion sickness, ask your doctor to prescribe anti-nausea and anti-dizziness medication and pack enough for the duration of your cruise;

· Establish a web-based account with any of the common providers like MSN, Yahoo or Gmail. Your family will want to know you are safe and free from trouble;

· Take note of your passport number, ticket number, vouchers and credit cards and leave these numbers with a friend or family member in case you lose them aboard the ship. Take important phone numbers with you;

· Check weather conditions. Summer does not mean that you will have consistently warm weather. Evenings spent at sea can become chilly. Bring some jackets or windbreakers just in case. Make a list of all things you may need and pack them (instead of buying them in the ship’s boutique which could cost you an arm and a leg).

Getting the Most Enjoyment from Your Cruise

· As soon as you board the ship, familiarize yourself with rescue procedures and where the emergency exits are;

· Most luggage are hauled into the ship in large batches. If you have 500-1000 fellow travellers, your luggage may not be delivered to your cabin as quickly enough. Be patient. If a reasonable amount of time has elapsed and your luggage still has not arrived, report your missing luggage immediately;

· If you want to participate in certain activities or want to have some spa treatments, reserve early;

· If you’re travelling with kids, ask the cruise staff if they have unlimited drinks for kids. You pay one price and the kids can have as many drinks as they want;

· If you want to meet people, don’t be shy. Try to look for people who seem by themselves and strike up a conversation. A cruise is meant to be enjoyed and intended to facilitate the social aspect;

If you feel like shopping, hold off until the last day of the cruise. Merchandise usually goes on sale towards the end of the cruise in some ships.

How to save BIG money on flights using \”no-frills airlines\”: If you just want to get \”there\” for as cheap as possible, and you don’t need all the fancy options, simply fly on one of these no-frills airlines and save hundreds of dollars on each flight (we give you a break down of all the airlines, plus links to their websites and all the contact info you need to get started ASAP)

How to work with travel agents to save money and time: Sometimes going trough a travel agent (middle man) instead of going direct through an airline will actually save you money. How to exploit loopholes in online ticket pricing systems to knock off huge chunks of money off your next flight (its not unheard of to use this method and knock off as much as $1000 off your Airline ticket!)

Everything you need to know about frequent flier programs: This is a great way to get free airfare, if you do it right. You can literally get a free flight or vacation every few months. There are 4 trillion frequent flyer miles currently issued that are worth over 500 billion dollars. (Yes, with a \”B\”!) In fact, frequent flyer miles are now considered the second largest currency in the world. Follow our advice and join the frequent flier game the right way.

How to get \”bumped\” and get reimbursed for it with free flights, first class upgrades, and hundreds of dollars in cash: There is a whole strategy to this that you can follow to get bumped on purpose, and do it over and over again to get tons of different reimbursements (this is a popular technique used by Discount Travelers in order to get free flights!)

Save on cruises: Unlike airlines, cruise companies consistently have a more difficult time filling their cruises to capacity. So you can find some truly amazing deals, if you know where to look.

How to stay in luxury hotels at hostel prices: Just like airlines want to fill up all of their seats, hotels want to fill up all of their rooms. It’s a better deal for them to have someone in the room for a discount price than to have the room empty for the night. If you know what you’re doing, you can literally stay in a 5 star hotel for the same price as a cheap motel or hostel

How to stay at other peoples luxury homes for FREE: Our methods for getting hotel discounts are great for short-term travel (1-2 weeks), but even those discounted prices will start to add up after a while. If you want to travel long-term (1 month – several months), home exchanges are a great way to do it. Imagine staying in someone else’s fully furnished beach-side villa for several months, free of charge!

Bed and Breakfast, hostels, camping, and more super-cheap ways to stay \”there\”: With prices starting at $5 and some places being free, this can save you some major cash. And don’t think that these places are a complete dump. If you know what you’re doing you’ll stay in comfort.

How to get paid for your travels: This doesn’t have to be your full time job. You just have to do a few easy and enjoyable tasks while you’re there, and you’ll make most if not all of your money back. Simple, fun, and easy to get started.

How to write off all of your trips: After you’ve saved hundreds of dollars on your vacation, why not go even further and save even more?

In short the Globe Cheap Discount Travel Guide will arm you with the knowledge you need to save hundreds, or even thousands of dollars on all your future vacations and never, EVER have to pay full price for your flights, hotels and vacation packages again…
