Are all holidays “family” holidays, or are they “mixed” (adult, children, combined)?
Question by Jonny B: Are all holidays “family” holidays, or are they “mixed” (adult, children, combined)?
My personal feelings on the issue is that holidays like Valentine’s Day, New Years Eve, Saint Patrick’s Day are “adult” holidays and children can enjoy them when they grow up. Holidays like Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, are primarily “family” holidays. Birthdays belong to the individual.
I do have friends that try and make every holiday revolve around the children. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
I also think that certain portions of holidays are for children, i.e. Easter egg hunts, pinatas, Santa, etc…
Now, I realize that almost any holiday celebration can be transformed into adult or family or children. I’m asking who people think the main unmorphed holiday celebrators should be and which holidays belong to which celebrators.
No judgement here, just curious as to what people think and why.

I like your question. I believe it is appropriate to celebrate eves with adults and the Holiday with your kids. Unfortunately, I have no family to spend any Holidays with.

I totally agree with you. However, parents usually involve children to prevent them from being left out but Valentine’s Day, St Patrick’s Day and New Year’s Eve are usually more adult in nature. When I was a kid I did the Valentine’s thing but now looking back at it, I don’t know why. Sharing a Valentine is for two people who truly know and care about each other. Not your toddler classmates. Heck of a question.
