Hotel Armstrong Paris – A Cheap Hotel Review – Not all good.
Hotel Armstrong Paris Review | An inexpensive but not “Cheap” Hotel in Paris
The Hotel Armstrong in Paris is a very popular hotel due to it above average amenities and it’s relatively inexpensive rates. I normally would cover a specific hotel but I made mention of the hotel in a previous blog post and have had additional questions and comments that has prompted me to write a more thorough description about the hotel.
I am familiar with the hotel because I go to Paris 5-6 times per year. I don’t know the owners of the hotel and they don’t know me.
The Hotel Armstrong is considered a two star hotel. I am not sure how the ratings are put together but I’ve stayed at other two star hotels and the Hotel Armstrong seems to be better than them. There are several reasons why I think the Hotel Armstrong is a cut above the average hotel. They have amenities that other hotels just don’t have. For instance, they have a community pool table. I think this is great as you meet other travelers and sometimes have to do something to kill time. They have a sauna. Again, men and women sometimes like to take a sauna session prior to going to sleep as it is relaxing and often romantic. They have flat screen TVs with many international channels. These TVs are good because many people need to settle down before they can fall asleep and others that I know like to have “background noise” to fall asleep too. They also have a parking structure if you rent a car. The benefits are obvious since Paris is notorious for difficult parking, not to mention car theft. The most overlooked hotel amenity is 24 hour reception service. Paris is the perfect city to stay up late and often it is the hotel than can call a taxi or provide instructions on going somewhere in the middle of the night.
The hotel is just like any hotel in Paris of this class. They do have the added advantage of recently being renovated so the rooms and the decor are new and up to date. However, like most Parisian hotels the rooms are small. This is sometimes a surprise for guests, but the hotel does what they can to provide the most comfortable setting include have separate luggage storage facilities. You can expect a small desk and telephone in the room. The double beds are two single beds pushed together which some couples find uncomfortable but is quite common in European hotels.
Not everything is perfect though at the hotel. The biggest complaint people offer for the Hotel Armstrong is that is isn’t in the city center. It will take an average of 15 minutes to get anywhere from the Hotel. Most reviewers admit that the distance is acceptable considering that the Metro is a few blocks away and in a safe neighborhood. As mentioned earlier, the next biggest complaint is the size of the rooms. Often these are first time visitors to Paris as repeat visitors find the size to be quite normal in comparison to most hotels in Paris. The final complaint that comes up regularly regarding the hotel is that you have to pay 14 euros per day for parking. Obviously, this isn’t a problem if you aren’t renting a car. Most people don’t rent cars and I don’t either.
I wouldn’t be fair if I also didn’t mention the top praises the Hotel Armstrong has received. The top three comments about the hotel are that the staff are surprising friendly and helpful, that the prices and rates are low and the hotel itself is more comfortable and clean than expected.
