Tips for Finding Ghost Hunts

Filed under: cruise — Tags: finding, ghost, hunts, tips — libertees @ 10:01 pm

If you’re interested in ghost hunts, you’re not alone. A lot of people wonder if we are alone or if “something else” is out there. There are people, however, who are sure that there is something out there because they’ve experienced paranormal events themselves.

Some want to have a séance and contact a deceased individual, some enjoy dabbling with the Ouija board. Some want to visit a haunted house and see if they can capture anything on film. Some people are interested in all sorts of different paranormal activity and plan to sit, in wait, in an area that’s known for paranormal activity to see if they can spot anything.

If you’re someone who watches this stuff on TV and who loves reading about it as well as seeing it in movies, maybe you’re ready to venture out and participate in ghost hunts of your own.

Two Ways of Finding Ghost Hunts Include:

1. Going on a hunt with an organised group. Some companies list events that you can participate in online. You can sign up and attend a planned event with experts

2. Arranging for a ghost hunt on your own after planning and investigating potential spots to investigate

On Your Own:

Is there a place you want to venture to that has a reputation for paranormal activity? Maybe you’ll want to plan a ghost hunt or paranormal tour of a particular well-known area. Ghost hunting by yourself isn’t advised. Go in a group of at least a few other people.

Where do you find haunted places?

Some of the popular ghost hunt tour locations in the UK, for instance, include: cemeteries, rectories, castles, pubs, inns, the Tower of London (of course), and old manors. You can find listings online of areas that have had paranormal sightings and that have haunted reputations and learn about the type of sighting, the history, and the likelihood, based on historical sightings, that you may see or experience something at various times of the year. You can find websites and TV shows dedicated to paranormal experiences and these can help you find ideas for places and events to go to.

On a Tour:

There are tour groups that are led by paranormal specialists who are well-versed in séances, ghost walks, haunted pub tours, and training sessions that include showing you how to use paranormal equipment. Many who are interested in ghost hunting try this for their first ghost hunting experience. They can attend an event managed by someone experienced, which wil help them maximise their chances of an exciting experience as well as teach them about the hobby of going on ghost hunts so they can plan their own event after having attended an event planned by someone with experience first.

Compass Paranormal is a group specialist in the area of UK paranormal events and ghost hunts. Check out their site for information about upcoming events and tips for getting the most out of your ghost hunt.

Haunted Weekends – An Extraordinary Group Outing

Filed under: cruise — Tags: extraordinary, group, haunted, outing, weekends — libertees @ 10:01 pm

Planning a group weekend away? What would they think about haunted weekends?

If it’s your turn to plan an outing for a group of friends, why not aim for stepping outside of the every day group outing. Forget bowling, the movies, or a game of charades. How about looking into haunted weekends, instead?

What kind of weekend?

There’s an increasing level of popularity and interest in pursuing the paranormal. If you’ve watched any shows on TV, you’ll know that there are experts and ghost chasers who dedicate time to following the unexplained. If your friends love sitting around telling ghost stories round a campfire, maybe they’d be intrigued with the prospect of:

  • Touring a haunted castle or pub
  • Having a séance
  • Ghost hunting

Haunted weekends can be great fun. Talk about an adrenaline rush! These aren’t about smoke and mirrors or simply scaring you with ghost stories. Many events put on throughout the UK are done with the serious intention of investigating areas that have been known for paranormal activities and ghost sightings. Go along for the ride…you never know what might happen.

If you’re setting one of these outings up, here are some tips for you:

  • Don’t organise an event like this in secret when doing it for a group. You really have no way whatsoever of knowing whether or not all of your friends will want to partake in this sort of event so it’s a good idea to be up front about the type of weekend you’re planning.
  • Organise the weekend with an experienced event planner who specialises in paranormal events. That way, you’ll be sure the experience will be an intriguing one, handled by someone who knows how to increase the chances of these types of outings being a success.
  • Make it safe. Go prepared. Have cameras, changes of clothing, snacks and water, and a first aid kit.
  • Make it an alcohol-free event. Most paranormal weekend event companies make this a requirement for safety purposes

What can you expect on such a weekend?

Different events can be happening and you may want to plan based around a specific event that sounds perfect for your group. Many of these outings are planned with psychic mediums in attendance and could even be filmed as well. Many mediums use technology to help them discover the secrets and the truths behind legends. Mightn’t it be interesting to witness this and see what happens?

Most outings are planned for small groups, which are always supervised. As you learn about the area you’re investigating, you may even get to use paranormal detection equipment yourself.

There is definitely no shortage of people interested in the paranormal and if you and your group thrives on the thrilling and chilling, you’ll most likely start making haunted weekends a regular group outing.

Compass Paranormal is a group specialist in the area of UK paranormal events and haunted weekends. Check out their site for information about upcoming events and tips for getting the most out of your ghost hunt.

Deep Sea Fishing at Sea Isle New Jersey

Filed under: cruise — Tags: deep, fishing, isle, jersey, new, sea — libertees @ 10:01 pm

In ever increasing numbers, fishermen from the novice to the experienced are finding the excitement and adventure of deep-sea fishing easily available in the waters off Sea Isle, New Jersey. With almost year-round fishing opportunities, it remains to simply choose the best time to book a boat or charter. Because of the unique cross flows of the Delaware River, the Hudson River, and the Gulf Stream, a nice variety of fish are attracted to this area. Closer in to shore, you can catch blue fish, striped bass, fluke, and weakfish, to name a few, and there are those who choose to surf fish right from the shore lines of selected beaches.

If you really want the opportunity to be out on the water and go where the bigger boys are, you’ll want to connect with one of the many fishing boats for hire. You can book 1/2 day, 3/4 day, all day or 23 hour night time trips, depending on what you are hoping to catch and how far you are willing to travel. For many fishermen, the excursion is its own reward. For others, the opportunity to do battle with a giant tuna, a swordfish, or mahi-mahi is a challenge like no other.

Families with children can enjoy and afford ocean fishing. As fishermen know, landing a big fish isn’t always about size and strength as much as it is skill and technique. Bluefish usually run up to about 15 pounds, but they do not give in easily. Caught by jigging (dropping un-baited hook and reeling in as fast as possible) or by bait fishing, they will keep even an experienced angler busy. Practiced, professional crews will assist with all aspects, including cleaning and filleting. Bring your own food, beverages, suntan lotion, and of course, a camera to show you with your trophies. You may also want to bring a cooler to store fish that you plan to bring home for a tasty fish fry.

Are you looking for a little more excitement? How about heading out to sea in the late afternoon, catching a few winks in the clean, air-conditioned bunkrooms, and then, sometime around midnight, rising to wage war with the bigger warriors of the deep. In the fall, tuna runs can produce fish anywhere from 25 lbs – 100+ lbs. A tuna is an amazing, unrelenting fighter. It will definitely give you an experience you will always remember. In addition, swordfish have been brought in weighing up to 250 lbs as well as the great tasting mahi-mahi that weighs in at about 20 lbs.

Your fishing experience will last through the night hours until dawn. Coming back to shore is a leisurely boat ride, savoring the recent evening adventures. Be sure to bring a blanket or sleeping bag and pillow. Fishing equipment is rented and bait is provided. Whether you want a family vacation or a weekend away with the guys, deep sea fishing off Sea Isle, New Jersey will offer a unique experience you will remember for years to come.

Eco Friendly Holidays In Lanzarote

Filed under: cruise — Tags: eco, friendly, holidays, lanzarote — libertees @ 10:01 pm

The ongoing (if unproven according to some experts) effects of global warming are causing an ever increasing number of tourists and holidaymakers to re-assess there choice of holiday destination. Coupled with the current economic squeeze (which will be here for some time to come) choosing a holiday destination closer to home can be both cheaper on the pocket and at the same time be more environmentally friendly.

As a major holiday destination the island of Lanzarote (which is in the Canarian archipelago) quite possibly at first glance may not appear to have altogether the best of green credentials, however, there are a number of ways in which it does well to beat other destinations hands down for holidaymakers looking to reduce their carbon footprint and remain environmentally conscious.

Air travel is said to be a major contributor to green house gases so to begin with the fact that the islands location is only four hours flight from the United Kingdom (and a little more for mainland Europe) means that it is half the distance, and therefore half the fuel consumption, of the Caribbean. That doesn’t mean you have to compromise on the weather though, as Lanzarote can vie with tropical islands for all year round good weather. With an average of only twenty days rainfall per annum there is also no monsoon season to deal with, and you can enjoy day time temperatures of approximately 20º Celsius even in the mid winter months.

Across the island many of the self catering apartments and holiday villas on Lanzarote already use eco-friendly solar panels to produce heated water for their swimming pools as opposed to electrical heating, whilst larger consumers of water, which tend to be the leisure attractions such as the island’s two golf courses, use recycled liquid to ensure that demand on the desalination system is minimised wherever possible. Alternative energy sources such as wind power are also popular, with commercially several large turbines generating a sizeable proportion of the island’s electricity requirements and this is also reflected in the smaller turbines used by individual premises.

But it isn’t simply businesses and accommodation on Lanzarote that adopt the green ethos and operate on a more eco-friendly basis. Eco friendly development has been in place for many years on the island and even the tourist attractions have been both planned and developed to work as much in harmony with their surroundings as is reasonably possible. This low impact ethos was the result of one man’s visions, and as such his creative intervention in the island’s development came just at the right moment.

The internationally renowned architect and artist, César Manrique, was actually born on Lanzarote and returned to his home after a spell in New York in the late 1960′s. His unique talents and his blend of architecture with art were employed in the creation of the seven centres of art and culture that help to provide visitors with an insight into the lives of past and present residents. These centres have been devised to be both visually appealing and environmentally sensitive so if you are visiting Lanzarote make some time to visit some of these modern but harmonious additions to the surrounding landscape.

However, Manrique’s creations were only one side of this geniuses talents, he was also well ahead of the crowd and was instinctively tuned and had a perceptive vision of how tourism could if remaining unchecked would spoil the natural beauty of the island. Especially if unrestricted development was allowed to get a foothold. So he worked alongside the government of Lanzarote to ensure that any buildings constructed were only of a certain height and that advertising was banned from public spaces.

The combination of all of the above factors have turned Lanzarote into an ideal holiday destination for the environmentally conscientious. There are even several places to stay that run entirely on solar and wind energy, as these alternative sources of power have gained in popularity and effectiveness in recent years.

Eco holidays in Lanzarote are a true reality and are here to stay.

By Dave Talbot: Lanzarote is an ideal location for those looking for a more eco friendly travel destination closer to Europe and the UK. To investigate more about this stunning island visit Lanzarote1.com for information about Lanzarote villas and self catering Lanzarote accommodation.

See the History of Palmyra in Syria tour

Filed under: cruise — Tags: history, palmyra, see, syria, tour — libertees @ 10:01 pm

Palmyra, the ancient caravancerai in the heart of Syria

In the mid first century CE, Palmyra, a wealthy and elegant city located along the caravan routes linking Persia with the Mediterranean ports of Roman Syria and Phoenicia, came under Roman control. (See below.) During the following period of great prosperity, the Aramaic and Arab inhabitants of Palmyra adopted customs and modes of dress from both the Parthian world to the east and the Graeco-Roman west.

Tadmor is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible (Second Book of Chronicles 8:4) as a desert city built (or fortified) by the King Solomon of Judea, the son of David.

In the First Book of Kings  is mentioned the city of ??? Tamor or Tamar, also built by Solomon. But it is traditionally read as Tadmor, and several citations in the tractates of the Talmud and of the midrash refer to that city in the Syrian desert (sometimes interchanging the letters “d” and “t” – “Tatmor” instead of “Tadmor”). Some modern scholars wrote that it could refer to a place near the Dead Sea.

Tadmor is also mentioned as built by Solomon in Flavius Josephus Antiquities of the Jews – Book VIII, along with the Greek name of Palmyra.

Tadmor is the name of Palmyra in Modern Hebrew. The exact etymology of the name “Palmyra” in this case is unknown, although some scholars believe it was related to the palm trees in the area. Others, however, believe it may have come out of an incorrect translation of the name “Tadmor” (cf. Colledge, Seyrig, Starcky, and others).

The city was first mentioned in the archives of Mari in the 2nd millennium BC. It was another trading city in the extensive trade network that linked Mesopotamia and northern Syria. Palmyra is also mentioned in 2 Chronicles

There had been a temple at Palmyra for 2000 years before the Romans ever saw it. Its form, a large stone-walled chamber with columns outside, is much closer to the sort of thing attributed to Solomon than to anything Roman. It is mentioned in the Bible as part of Solomon’s Kingdom. In fact, it says he built it.

Why Are Greek Islands Holidays So Popular?

Filed under: cruise — Tags: greek, holidays, islands, popular, why — libertees @ 10:01 pm

If you are looking for the perfect trip away, then you should consider Greek Islands holidays. They are so beautiful, and offer so much in the way of unique experiences, that is of little surprise that they attract millions of tourists every single year.

There are only a small number of places that have such an ancient and legendary history, and even fewer enjoy such a high level of name recognition. Try a Google image search for ‘Greek Islands holidays’ and you will be able to get a glimpse of the beauty that goes with the history.

Even pictures of the landscape, beaches and historical settings can not to Greece justice though. You really need to see and experience the place first hand, so as to be able to appreciate the atmosphere that goes with the scenery.

For some the thought of the magical Greek Isles is a once in a lifetime adventure to be savored and explored. Others have made Greek Islands holidays an annual event that they can share with friends and families.

Whether it is an action packed holiday (with hiking, sailing and scuba diving being just a few of the available activities) that you are looking for, or a tranquil, peaceful one, Greece has something for you. You will not be disappointed!

It is just as popular with families as it is with couples, and just as popular with older people as it is with younger people. There are few other holiday destinations that appeal to such a wide a range of people.

One of the most intriguing elements of travel among the Greek Islands is that there are so many differences between each one. If you are lucky enough to spend 1-2 weeks exploring several of these charming island paradises you will soon discover that each of them possesses a special identity and beauty.

Greek Islands holidays are richly filled with spectacular beauty, deep emotion and breathtaking opportunities to connect with ancient civilizations. You can experience classic Greek architecture and history when you visit the Cyclades Islands and then be whisked away to compare this lifestyle with the Venetian influenced culture that is present on the Ionian Islands.

You might want to consider the Sardonic Gulf Islands, which are close to mainland Greece, making them more accessible and easier to fit to a trip that also includes a visit to Athens, the capital city. Other options include the Islands of Crete, Corfu and Rhodes.

The Sporades Islands might be the right choice for you if you are looking for a particularly quiet and intimate atmosphere. Located between northern and central Greece, these islands are said by many to have the most exotic landscapes in the country.

Due to the wide range of Greek Islands to choose from, you can be sure that there will be one, or even a few, that perfectly match your taste and budget. Actually, given the quality on offer, it would be difficult to make a bad decision on which island to spend your holiday on.

Cruising Solo

Filed under: cruise — Tags: cruising, solo — libertees @ 10:01 pm

I was dying to cruise from California to wherever the water flows and had but a brashly planned trip ahead. With hundreds of cruises departing from Miama Fl, I was fortunate enough to get onboard with Her – Satan’s incarnate, the root of all evil, the reason for our relationship’s demise. Heaven forbid if I lose control and push her overboard, never to be seen in cruises to the Caribbean again.

Going on lavish cruises to Europe was the guilty pleasure I used to share with my former lover. Now the joy of making lists (i.e. to-bring, must-sees, must-buys), packing bursting suitcases, never leaving the buffet table’s side and turning salmon pink under the sun was all mine. I have to thank Her for that, for ruining our five year relationship and making me go on one of the finest cruises to the Caribbean alone. And she had the audacity to take the same exact ship I was on. I bet she had me checked up on what with her psychotic stalker-like tendencies.

I let Her win the first time around, letting her take away the man I knew was the one. I wasn’t feeling too generous as to let her get to me whilst on cruise. I chose to be the bigger person and made the most out of my trip, all the while setting aside the fact that she-devil was a few cabins away and there was always a huge possibility of us meeting either at the grand ballroom or the common sundeck. I busied myself with sight-seeing, island hopping, souvenir shopping and tips-making. I was able to come up with my top 3 tips on how you can enjoy the perfect cruise, sans companion.

• Find the right boat and be sure to book early. In choosing your boat, take into consideration the type of ship itself and not just the destination/s. Ships have different facilities and corresponding atmospheres. Get the best-priced cruise by either booking early or at crunch-time. Work with a good travel agent whom you’d be able to discuss your expectations and your budget with.
• ‘Light and right’ is the general rule for packing. Don’t get too carried away by packing all your bikinis and sundresses only to leave them crumpled and unused in your luggage. Trust me, your luggage will BE misplaced so be sure to have a set of clothes for changing in your hand-carry. Keep in mind the phrase ‘a little of everything’ – undies, a bathing suit, a sundress, something semi-formal for dinner and day-to-night shoes. You’ll never know who you’ll bump into so pack things that would make you look good.
• Beat ‘em, don’t join ‘em. You have a schedule down pat and so does everyone else. Brochures that come with the cruise tickets have all sorts of activities and excursions that most people would find interesting. On your first day onboard, make necessary arrangements if you don’t have plans of mingling with the rest of the cruisers.

Travel and Vacations

Filed under: cruise — Tags: travel, vacations — libertees @ 7:11 am

When we go on vacation, what is the first thing that we usually think about? For most people, the first thing that they think about is their car. What are they going to pack to bring with them on their trip? What are they going to do to keep their kids occupied throughout the 12+ hour trip on the sometimes crowded roadways?

While vacations are supposed to be all about relaxing, they seldom get off to that kind of a start. After all, there are so many things that you have to make sure are in place before you can finally set out on your cross country adventure. Due to the nature of the current economic climate, there are many people who are leaving their cars parked in their driveways, and who are instead opting to fly to their vacation destination with kids in tow OR, they are coming up with more sorts of creative ways to spend vacation time at home with their loved ones. For instance, instead of heading out the door to go to Disney World in Florida when you live somewhere like New York, people are looking up different sorts of theme parks and other types of sight seeing attractions in their local area.

I remember going on several short road trips with my family when I was growing up in New York. One of the places that we went as a family was to Six Flags Great Adventure. My little brother and I loved roller coasters (and still do), and Six Flags was where it was at back then. While New York didn’t have a Six Flags theme park, New Jersey did; and so we made the two hour drive from the Long Island suburbs to the theme park. We loved it so much that we actually wound up going back several times over the course of the next couple of years. There was also another theme park called Splish Splash. Splish Splash was actually located (and still is) on Long Island all the way out east in a town called Riverhead. Like the name suggests, Splish Splash was a water theme park with nothing but the very best water rides.

If all else failed, there were still plenty of museums and other sorts of historical things to do on Long Island as well as in Manhattan. I guess that is the beauty of living on Long Island as a kid; there’s never really a dull moment when it comes to finding fun and interesting things to do. Regarding vacations, however, it is imperative that we find a way to be more creative with our time. You don’t always have to spend upwards of hundreds or thousands of dollars in order to show your family a good time. Even if it is something as simple as going strawberry picking or taking a nature hike or even planning a picnic outing where you play a fun game of soccer or softball, you can still have a nice, relaxing vacation without all of the frills and the astronomical bills.
